Adults
are dark-brown snout beetles, 1/4 inch long. Larvae are creamy white
grubs with reddish-brown heads. LIFE
CYCLE: Adults
emerge early in the spring to lay eggs in stalks near the soil line. CONTROLS:Cultural: Use a 3-year rotation. Biological: Parasitic nematodes can be somewhat effective against larvae. Apply when planting and water in. Botanical: Check plants regularly; if more than one adult is seen per 10 foot row, spray rotenone/pyrethrin. |
