HOSTS: Rose, raspberry, currant, gooseberry.

DESCRIPTION: The adult beetles are about ½ inch long, all black with a coppery thorax.

LIFE CYCLE: The larvae overwinters under the bark of canes or in the pith. In spring it pupates within the plant, and the adults lay the eggs near the base of the plant. The larvae tunnel upwards in the plant and pupate inside a chamber the following spring. There is one generation per year.

CONTROLS: Prune out and destroy infested canes in late winter/early spring.
