223 W Alder Building Renovation

Project Update & Pictures (May 6, 2014)

We're moved and settled in!  The pictures are hung and we ready for business.  See the whole process from start to finish in the attached slide show.

On March 27th we held an Open House with a great turn out.  Staff provided the refreshments and gave tours of the new space.

Moving date has been set!  We will be moving on Monday and Tuesday, February 3 & 4.  The space is being cleaned and ready for the final walk through to fix any blemishes.

Glass at the top of the cubicle walls is in place and the cubicle doors will be going up soon.  There is still some painting to be done.  The cabinetry guy should be arriving today to start installing cabinets in the kitchen and hallway.  The hall lights and the main entry light are up and look good.  The front door and the window at the top of the north wall should be installed soon.  Carpet is due to be installed the 4th week of January we the move date is pushed out to the first week of February.

The fire rated windows on the east of the building are being installed.  The interior painting has been completed.  Doors to restrooms, closets, and offices are almost installed along with the light fixtures.  Now that NW Energy has done their inspection for moving the power box, work can progress in the large conference room.  (Pictures will be posted later this week).

Window glass is being installed and the interior roof has been painted.  The heating ducts are in the process of being painted (see 3rd picture from left below).  Drywall continues to be installed.  The project is on schedule with the anticipated move date somewhere mid-January to the end of January.

Why is GCP moving?

When the Office and Planning and Grants was split between the city and county, grants became its own department (Grants and Community Programs).  There was a problem - where would the new grants department reside?  Options were considered and the decision was made to remodel the building at 223 W. Alder that used to house the County Print Shop (formerly Blue Star Tent and Awning).

Construction started in late August 2013 and proceeded at a fast pace; most of the time being ahead of schedule.  When this project started it was anticipated that GCP could move sometime the end of February or beginning of March 2014.

Pictures below were taken late October 2013 of the interior before the drywall went up.  Most of the framing was done at this point.
