The Montana Local Government GIS Coalition (MLGGC) was initiated by local government GIS practitioners in July 1995 to facilitate and advance the implementation and development of GIS technology in city and county government through communication and data sharing.
Montana Association of Geographic Information Professionals (MAGIP) http://magip.org
The mission of MAGIP is to stimulate, encourage, and otherwise provide for the advancement of an interdisciplinary approach to the use of geographic information. The Association sponsors educational workshops, conferences, forums, grants, and scholarships. Established in 1985, the NRIS was designed to simplify the task of identifying and acquiring natural resource information. As a program of the Montana State Library, NRIS makes information on Montana's natural resources easily and readily accessible. Serving government agencies, business and industry, and private citizens, NRIS operates a clearinghouse and referral service to link users with the best sources of information and service.

Wildland Fire Resources

The Geospatial Multi-Agency Coordination Group or GeoMAC, is an internet-based mapping tool originally designed for fire managers to access online maps of current fire locations and perimeters in the conterminous 48 States and Alaska. Using a standard web browser, fire personnel can download this information to pinpoint the affected areas. With the growing concern of western wildland fires in the summer of 2000, this application also became available to the public. InciWeb is an interagency wildland fire incident information management system. The system was developed with two primary missions: The first was to provide a standardized reporting tool for the Public Affairs community during the course of wildland fire incidents.
