Missoula County Park and Trails

The Missoula County Park Board is made up of 11 members from the Missoula County Community. The Park Board provides for the public's parks and recreation needs through the establishment of policies and procedures for the orderly development, maintenance and disposition of park land.
Missoula County Parks and Trails Plan
In early April 2010, Missoula County hired PROS Consulting, LLC, to assist the County with an update of the 1997 County Parks and Conservation Land Plan. The updated plan will include a trails component. PROS Consulting visited the County in mid-April 2010 to begin the community involvement process by meeting with small groups of key community leaders including the Board of County Commissioners, the County Park Board and Senior County staff. Additionally, PROS began initial park site visits that April.
The Missoula County Park Board frequently forms partnerships with local organizations and homeowner associations to improve County parks and other recreation areas. In these partnerships, the Park Board provides planning assistance and some funding; in turn, the local group matches those funds and agrees to continually maintain the park.
The Missoula County Park Board, together with the County Weed District, has developed a Partnership Weed Grant Program for County Parks. The Board is seeking neighborhood groups and individuals to develop and implement Integrated Weed Management Plans on County parks.
Since 2003, the Missoula County Park Board has recognized exceptional people or organizations that work on behalf of Missoula County Parks by presenting them with the Park Steward Award. Awardees are given a certificate and their names are added to a plaque on display at the Missoula Public Library.
