HOSTS: Aspen, Dogwood, Willow, honeylocust, crabapple, apple, and plum.

DESCRIPTION: Caterpillars with a pronounced reddish hump behind the head.

LIFE CYCLE: Overwinters in a cocoon mixed with leaf litter around the base of the previously infected tree. Moths emerge in late spring, females lay eggs on the underside of the host’s leaves in masses of 50-100 eggs. Larvae skeletonize the underside of the leaves. As they mature they move away from the host plant to pupate. There is one generation per year.

CONTROLS: No control needed. Cosmetic injury only.
