The Swan Valley Community Council and Planning Committee last fall worked with Missoula County Rural Initiatives on a Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks: Planning for People and Wildlife mini-grant. Through this grant the community council launched two projects to further their work to plan for the future of the Swan Community.

  1. Swan Valley Community Council GIS Project: To improve GIS data and maps for the Swan Valley Community Council planning efforts by working with Ken Wall of Geodata Services Inc.
Find out more about this project here:
    http://geodata.squarespace.com/svcc-gis/
  2. Swan Valley Community Council Visioning Plan: To develop a community outreach plan that will assist the planning team in designing a visioning process for their community that will answer the following questions:
    • What they love and treasure about the Swan Valley
    • What are their concerns for the Swan Valley
    • What changes if any they would like to see
    • What they want the community to look and be like in the future?

The planning committee worked with Dave DeGrandepre to produce a Public Outreach Plan and other documents that will help the committee engage in a discussion with their community about their vision.

Swan Valley Condon Community Profile Review Draft as prepared by the Swan Valley Community Council Planning Committee September 21, 2010

(Note: This draft document has been produced through a collaborative effort of Swan Valley residents.  It has not been reviewed by Missoula County and has not been adopted as policy by Missoula County. For information on this local effort, contact the Swan Valley Community Council.  For questions about the County's growth policy amendment process and planning projects, please contact Community and Planning Services at 258-3432.)

Welcome to the Swan Valley Condon Community Profile and thank you for reading this document. An introduction to what we are doing is in the very first part of this document. But to make a long story short, as a sub committee of the Swan Valley Community Council, we are attempting to put into words what is important about the Swan Valley in preparation for developing the growth policy for the Upper Swan Valley. This is a big task and we need your help. So please feel free to comment, make suggestions, and tell us what we did wrong or even what we did right. But most importantly, tell us what you know is important about the Swan Valley and help us develop a voice for our community, Condon and the Swan Valley. All aspects of our community and all points of view are welcomed and respected.

There is a reader’s guide for each section that you can use to organize your thoughts if you are so inclined, or use whatever method works for you. You can email your comments or questions to svccp@me.com. Or you can mail them to The Swan Valley Condon Comprehensive Planning Committee P.O. Box 980, Condon, MT 59826.

Thanks again,
The Swan Valley Condon Community Comprehensive Planning Committee
