Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan
Pre-Disaster mitigation planning is a tool for assessing and prioritizing projects for mitigating damage and casualties from natural disasters. It helps communities focus on the actual risks from hazards by profiling each potential threat and comparing the relative risks between hazards. A thorough profile of hazard history, economic and structural losses, injury and casualties, and the potential for hazards to occur again are analyzed for each hazard. Sometimes historical data provides clues to estimate the potential losses, or hazard zones can be defined to determine where properties and populations are at risk. For other hazards, assessment models have been created to simulate a hazard and the potential damage from the hazard. The goal of the Plan is to assess the relative risks and then have an objective analysis of projects that can most cost-effectively reduce or eliminate risks and their threat to infrastructure, structures, and the population. Community Wildfire Protection Plan
Welcome to the Missoula County Community Wildfire Protection Plan. This plan was initiated by the Missoula County Office of Emergency Services and is provided here in Portable Document Format, which requires Adobe's Acrobat Reader to view properly. Links are provided below. Since the plan is large in file size and contains numerous photographs, we have divided the plan into smaller sections based on the different sections of the document.
There are several maps that are associated with this document. You will find a section below called Maps. Here you will find links to those maps. The maps come in two different file types: TIF and JPG. There are special viewers available for viewing TIF files from several vendors, however, we only provide information for a couple of them. For more information about these viewers and a brief comparison between the two listed on this page, click here. If you would like to save a copy of these plan sections, just click on the links below then use Adobe Acrobat's SAVE A COPY feature by clicking on the floppy drive icon, name the document and save it to your hard drive.

Maps
Maps are available in either .JPG or TIF/TIFF formats for your convenience. In order to view the TIF files you may want a TIFF viewer (a plug-in for your browser to view .tif file types) or you can use your Windows Picture and Fax viewer if you are running on a Windows XP operating system. There are .jpg versions of these maps available as well, however, these files may take a quite a while to download over a dial-up connection.

If you need any of the planning documents listed above in a format that is not available on this page, please send us an email requesting a particular format. For example, if you wish to have the Emergency Disaster Plan in a plain text format please indicate this in your email.
Please note that some documents require certain formats due to the type of content included in these documents. For instance, the Emergency Disaster Plan is set up as a linked document and so requires at least Microsoft Word to get the full benefit of the navigational features. If the reader requests this document in text format the reader will have to scroll through long pages of content.
