Office of Emergency Services - Smart911
In February 2012, Missoula County became the first county in Montana to provide Smart911, a free service focused on enhancing emergency response to county residents. Smart911 allows you to create a private safety profile that instantly transmits information you specify to the 9-1-1 dispatcher's computer screen when you place an emergency call. This technology allows dispatchers to relay critical care information to emergency responders in the field even if you are unable to communicate normally. In addition to important medical and household information, you can upload pictures of your family for more rapid response in AMBER alert situations.
Additionally, Missoula County recently began offering two complimentary services to Smart911: SmartPrepare and Rave Alert. Along with Smart911, SmartPrepare is an opt-in service that allows Missoula County Office of Emergency Management officials to access and use your safety profile information to better plan for and respond to community needs during a disaster or other emergency. With this information we can know who might need extra help in a particular area when disaster occurs. As with Smart911, this information remains confidential and secure.
Rave Alert is an Emergency Notification System that allows Missoula County Emergency Management officials to contact you when situations necessitate. This is particularly useful when important safety messages need to be conveyed in a timely manner. Emergency Alert Notifications can be sent community wide, to selected neighborhoods or even to selected groups of people, such as residents with mobility impairments, using your choice of modes (text, phone call, email, TTS, twitter, facebook, etc.).
Together, these services are important tools designed to enhance overall community resilience and individual safety through in-depth whole community emergency planning, emergency messaging and the ability to relay critical care information to emergency responders when seconds count. Starting in late January 2014, you will be able to register for all three of these services at the same time.
You choose what information to share with 9-1-1; your information is owned by you and you can update it at any time. Missoula County understands that these services contain potentially sensitive information. Smart911 information is shared with 9-1-1 dispatchers and first responders in the field only when someone dials Missoula County's 9-1-1 Center from a phone registered to your safety profile. SmartPrepare information is available to local emergency management officials only if you check the box to opt-in for this service.
When every second counts, Smart911 can make a critical difference for you and your loved ones. It's free, private and secure.
