News and Updates:
- Planning Board to consider limited revisions to the City Subdivision Regulations at its April 6, 2010 meeting. Draft copies (dated 3-10-2010) are available for review at OPG, the Missoula Public Library, and www.zoningmissoula.com. Copies may also be purchased at Denny's Copy Shop (you must give 24 hours notice to purchase a copy - the cost is about $12).
- Community-Based Organization (CBO) applications now being accepted from governmental or health and human service non-profit organizations that provide basic/critical needs assistance to at-risk populations in the Missoula area. Applications due by April 14, 2010.
- The Revolving Loan Fund application period has been opened, and pre-application letters are due March 12, 2010. Applications will not be accepted without a pre-application letter having been previously submitted. Final applications are due March 31, 2010.
- Historic Preservation Chapter 20.30 adopted by City Council. Effective date March 22, 2010. (Current list of National Register Sites in Missoula)
- Target Range Neighborhood Plan - Planning Board recommended the plan be adopted as an amendment to the Growth Policy by the BCC and City Council. Public hearings with the BCC and City Council have not been scheduled yet.
- Growth Policy Amendment - Planning Board recommendations have been forwarded to the Board of County Commissioners and the City Council and they will conduct public hearings on the amendments.
- Change to legal ad publishing for Planning Board - Legal Notices for public hearings at the Planning Board meetings will be published in either the Missoulian OR the Independent, depending on the jurisdiction of the project. Notices for projects under Missoula County jurisdiction will be published in the Independent, notices for projects under the City of Missoula jurisdiction will be published in the Missoulian. - Subdivision Fire Review Information
- Approved City Zoning Ordinance for Title 20 now available (effective date November 4, 2009). The zoning map and section maps for Title 20 are also available. To view background information on the code update visit www.zoningmissoula.com
- Missoula County Minor and Major Subdivision applications have been revised along with the Element Review Checklist. The applications are now available in a downloadable form.
- UFDA (Urban Fringed Development Area) 2008 Yearbook - shows changes in the UFDA for 2008 (UFDA adopted Plan)
- Maps of subdivisions that received preliminary approval in 2007 and 2008 are now available.
- FEMA has issued the Revised Preliminary Digital Flood Insurance Rate Maps (DFIRM) for Missoula and Missoula County. The maps are the first countywide update since 1988. The new maps are expected to be adopted for flood insurance purposes in September, 2010. FEMA will accept public comment and appeals on the new maps for 90-days. Program Description
The Missoula City-County Office of Planning and Grants (OPG) was created by Missoula County and the City of Missoula pursuant to an interlocal agreement executed by the two governing bodies in 1996. The interlocal agreement was subsequently modified in 2005.
The purpose of the interlocal agreement is to enhance the ability of the City of Missoula and Missoula County to plan for future development of the City and County so that a county-wide pattern of community-building, land use, and conservation that reflects the environmental, economic, aesthetic, and social values of city and county residents is achieved.
The Office of Planning and Grants is organized into five divisions:
- Administration and Support Services
- Grants Administration
- Transportation Planning
- Current Planning (Permits and Projects)
- City Research and Long Range Planning (Urban Initiatives)
Mission Statement
The Missoula Office of Planning and Grants provides planning, program development and implementation services to the citizens and elected officials of the City and County of Missoula. The Office of Planning and Grants engages in natural resources and land-use planning, community development activities, and grant programs that effectively improve the health, safety, and welfare of Missoula County residents. In all work efforts, it is the responsibility of the Office to:
- Promote development that contributes to community goals and is in harmony with our natural environment.
- Support local elected officials and agency coworkers in their efforts to improve the public health, safety, and welfare of Missoula’s citizens.
- Promote a high quality of life for all citizens of Missoula City and County. Encourage public participation in planning for the future.
- Strive for excellence in serving our community.
