Remediation Design and Restoration
The sediments being removed in remediation are those located within Area 1 on the figure below. These were the most contaminated sediments in the reservoir, and the primary source of arsenic contamination in the aquifer.

The photo below was taken during a ten foot reservoir drawdown in 2002, showing the well defined area of sediments known as Area 1.

The figure below shows the conceptual model of the cleanup design, including the location of the bypass channel (purple lines), and rail spur (green line)

The restoration phase of the project is coordinated by the Montana Natural Resource Damage Program. River channel construction and restoration will continue through 2012.
